Released in 1995, GZA is giving us a blast from the past, performing his full Liquid Swords album for New York and Chicago fans. On October 30th and 31st, Genius will drop his tracks in Chicago while fans in New York can expect him on November 2nd at the City Winery location.
Serving as his second studio album, GZA’s Liquid Swords is just a classic; it’s maybe the best hip hop album of all time. Dropping on November 7th, 1995 the platinum certified album is credited for launching Killah Priest.
“One of the many great things about Liquid Swords is that while it’s an unimpeachable work of lyrical mastery, of fierce intellect and sound morals, it’s in no way a record for prudes,” Pitchfork wrote in a review.
In 2015, GZA told the Guardian;
“Making an album was a great feeling, and there were many hours in RZA’s house, in his basement, and hours of beat playing. We were still in our early stage, so there was so much support from everyone. I was doing the album, and every now and then a Clan member would come through. Rae would be there one day or Ghost another. It was just fun.”
With GZA going on a brief tour again to showcase this classic, one can only hope other legends will come back and drop a few beats for fans- who do you want to see on tour again?
